Learn to make caipirinhas in a rooftop lesson at sunset, and master the art of samba dancing before hitting up one of Rio’s most iconic samba nightclubs. Marvel at the legendary Christ the Redeemer statue and savour sundown cocktails on Sugarloaf Mountain. Spend three days in the charming UNESCO town of Paraty, wandering its cobbled streets and tree-lined waterfront. Bask in Brazilian beach life on Copacabana and Ipanema, playing volleyball and soaking in the rays. Stay in a beachfront boutique hotel in Rio and an oasis gem with a tropical pool and garden bar in Paraty

Party animals and beach-lovers, look alive. The sun-dappled mecca of Brazil is calling you with open arms. Our getaway to this fabled land of palm trees and the warmest people on the planet really does live up to its glamorous hype. Swaying to a hypnotic samba beat, we’ll start and end our adventure in the sizzling city of Rio. We’ll dance with the locals in a unique colonial townhouse filled with antiques, and conjure up caipirinhas overlooking the Rio skyline at sunset. We’ll learn how to swing our hips to a sultry samba groove and embrace the dazzling diversity of life on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. We’ll explore the arty neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, stand in awe at the foot of Christ the Redeemer  – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World – and take the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain, for summit drinks at sunset. Then, sandwiched nicely between this dose of Rio joie de vivre, we’ll drink in three days of paradise in the UNESCO town of Paraty. Here, we’ll take a private boat around a labyrinth of jungle islands and hidden beaches, pausing for a seafood picnic and ice-cold beers along the way. We’ll float across the serene turquoise waters on a fleet of stand-up paddleboards, and ogle the colourful marine life with a welcome spot of snorkelling. Let your inner adventurer lose amid a landscape of shimmering waters and lush green rainforest, before weaving your way around the vibrant buildings, restaurants and art galleries back in town. All this, with two lovely hotels – one on Ipanema beach, the other with a tropical pool and garden bar – thrown into the mix, along with a crew of like-minded solo travellers. So, whether you’re leaping across the Copa playing beach volleyball or diving off your private boat into the Atlantic, get set to throw yourself right in. Brazil is ready when you are.

Touch down in Rio and take a private transfer to your boutique hotel on Ipanema Beach. There might just be time to wallow in the rooftop pool before a caipirinha lesson at sunset, followed by a welcome dinner in a hip neighbourhood with your new Flashpacker crew and guide

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro! From the moment you set foot in this land of palm trees and sunshine, you can’t fail to be swept up by its swinging Samba beat. Even the drive from the airport – by private transfer, naturally – will take you along wide, Atlantic ocean avenues, where skaters vie for space alongside the volleyball crowds and hundreds of beach-goers paying homage to some of the world’s finest stretches of sand. This is a place where the people are as warm as the climate, and everywhere you go seems infused with an irresistible energy. Arrive at your boutique hotel – complete with a glistening pool overlooking Ipanema Beach – and freshen up before a rooftop caipirinha lesson at sunset. Muddle up your own version of Brazil’s potent national cocktail as you get to know your guide and fellow Flashpackers. Then, knock back your first hit of Cachaça, as the glittering skyline of Rio rolls out before you. Later on, we’ll head to a cool local neighbourhood for dinner. If you still have energy afterwards, it’s a Saturday night in Rio and the Samba clubs will just be heating up – have your dancing shoes handy…

Head up Corcovado Mountain to Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Hop on over to the bohemian neighbourhood of Santa Teresa for a hearty Brazilian lunch and wander around its ancient and colourful streets. Head back down to Ipanema for a night of partying by the beach

Have your bucket lists at the ready, because this morning we’re visiting a Wonder of the World. No trip to Rio would be complete without getting up close to Christ the Redeemer, so we’re heading up the Corcovado Mountain to admire this epic statue in all 125 feet of its towering splendour. It also happens to be a crucial landmark in Flash Pack history, with our co-founder Lee’s “Selfie with Jesus” catapulting Flash Pack into the press back in 2014. Once you’ve got plenty of selfies of your own (at base level this time), we’re leaving the tourists behind and heading to the Bohemian district of Santa Teresa. Enjoy lunch at an authentic local restaurant before an afternoon exploring the winding, tram-filled streets of this arty neighbourhood. There are plenty of boutiques and old, tree-lined buildings to meander around, with glimpses here and there of the ocean far below. We’ll then head back down to our high-octane hotel, where you can continue the party at beach level. It would be rude not to…

Day 3: The ultimate beach day

Live like a Carioca, with the ultimate beach day on Ipanema and Copacabana. Lounge with a cocktail or three on golden sands, hit the waves, play volleyball and people-watch to get a real flavour of Brazilian beach life. Have lunch at a popular juice bar and head to the rocky peninsula of Arpoador to watch the sun turn the city skyline alow at sunset

You can’t know Brazil without getting a feel for life on its epic beaches, so get ready to embrace your inner Carioca today and live like the fun-loving locals. Here begins the ultimate beach day of sunbathing, swimming and strolling your way across Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. We’ll start with lunch at a juice bar before a sun-soaked afternoon of beach volleyball matches and kicking back on the golden-white sands. As the sun melts away your cares, freshen up with plenty of ice-cream and a caipirinha or two, while basking in the sizzling spectacle of Rio’s mesmerising beachfront. From its muscly weight-lifting area to the cross-dressing section, fishermen’s colony and favela kids’ football hangouts, the beaches of Rio offer a fascinating window onto an ever-changing parade of people. Out on the waves, surfers strut their stuff while the beautiful people soak in the sun in threadbare swimwear, and laid-back party souls gather around bar shacks. A golden sunset seems a fitting finale to day, so we’re heading to the jutting rock at Arpoador for panoramic views across this epic city.
