Learn how to ride a Vespa through countryside Spain, in this immersive four-day escape. Zip past sunflower fields, mountain gorges and remote hillside villages, and soak in the spectacular scenery of Duratón Canyon Nature Reserve. Stay in traditional Spanish posadas dotted across medieval towns, and feast on hearty local cuisine paired with wines. Escape the crowds, grab a taste of rural Spanish life and master a brand new skill

Forget overpriced rental cars. Forget stuffy buses. Forget crowded trains. Allow us to introduce you to a 125cc Vespa, the BEST way to travel across rural Spain and all its sunbaked beauty. Picture this: you’re zooming along golden country lanes on your retro wheels, revving full throttle forwards, dust in your wake. Canyons laced with fields of endless sunflowers to your left and hazy mountains to your right. But hold up, there’s a medieval village up on that hill, a tapas bar and oh yes, a jug of sangria with your name on it. If that sounds truly perfecto, we’ve got just the ticket – a four-day Spanish escapade spent whizzing through the tourist-free splendour of central Spain’s rugged mountains, rural villages and charming towns. Join us escaping the crowds of Madrid and going off the beaten path for a unique getaway, complete with expert Vespa training, delicious tapas-fuelled pitstops and boutique accommodation along the way. With no Vespa experience necessary, all you need to do is rock up and prepare for the ride of a lifetime (and a newfound Vespa obsession…) And don’t just take our word for it; see what The Guardian and Marie Claire have to say about our thrilling Vespa getaway.

Itinerary

Day 1: Your first flavour of vespa life

Fly into Madrid and travel to Tamajón, where you’ll be introduced to your new wheels and briefed on every aspect of Vespa driving. Test out your skills on sleepy village roads before tucking into a hearty evening meal. Get to know your fellow Flashpackers and retreat your charming Spanish guesthouse

Touch down in Madrid, where you’ll meet your guide and fellow Flashpackers before hopping into a private car for the hour-and-a-half journey to Tamajón. Here, you’ll enjoy your first taste of Guadalajaran cuisine in a local restaurant, before meeting your new retro companion: a 125cc automatic Vespa. Your bilingual tutor will go through a safety briefing and teach you how to drive a Vespa, so you’ll soon be zipping down quiet country roads on your cult classic bike. Now you’ve got the Vespa vibes in hand, it’s time to refuel over dinner with a smooth glass of Rioja, before settling into your traditional Spanish abode for the night.

Day 2: Sunflower fields and medieval villages

Mosey your way around the Spanish countryside on an Vespa ride today, passing through thick forest, the Sierra Mountains and the sunflower fields of Castilla . Stop off for the night at the hillside town of Sepúlveda. Dig into another sumptuous Spanish meal before bedding down in a Romanesque villa

You’ll be feeling like a Vespa pro by now, so today heralds a 115km trip with spectacular scenery. With the help of your speedy Vespa, you’ll be slaloming through thick beech forests, past rivers and jagged peaks as we work our way towards the medieval town of Riaza. We’ll then rev west in search of Castilla’s sunflower-strewn plains and wind our way through the typical ‘pueblos rojos’ (red villages) enroute to Sepúlveda. This charming hilltop town is bursting with golden fields and striking canyons, and its medieval core features Romanesque architecture and cobbled streets. You’ve earned a break, so we’re pitching up at Sepúlveda for the night and spoiling you with another traditional Spanish dinner, followed by a night at one of our all-time favourite hotels. The family-run Posada de San Millán is a small Romanesque villa with an ancient courtyard and rooms that drip with atmosphere.

Day 3: Ride the road less-travelled

Get revved up for another spectacular day of Vespa riding. Make a beeline for Duratón Canyon Nature Reserve, and zip your way through a stunning tapestry of forests, castles and rivers – all far from the tourist crowds. Vespa onwards to the medieval town of Pedraza, for a final Flash Pack feast and stopover in a lovely hotel near the Guadamarra mountains

Rise and shine, it’s your last full day on the road and it’s going to be a 110km showstopper. Fuel up on breakfast – we’re revving off in search of a special Spanish secret, the Duratón Canyon Nature Reserve. This staggeringly beautiful park is well off the beaten track, complete with emerald forests and a glittering river that snakes through sheer cliffs and castles. A quick pitstop sees us investigate the ruins of an ancient monastery, the Ermita de San Frutos, which is characterised by griffon carvings with huge 2m wingspans. From up here, you’ll find yourself in one picturesque corner of the canyon, with glorious panoramas all around. Come afternoon, we’ll arrive at Pedraza, a charming walled medieval town. It’s then time to spruce up your helmet hair with a decadent dinner with your Pedraza pals. Turn into your charming hotel in the centre of the Old Town.
