About your trip

We’re just going to say it: this is the ultimate African safari experience. Why? Here’s an adventure that’ll see you staying at a one-of-its-kind Land Rover camp; a camp that has the unique ability to roam to the Serengeti’s most remote, wildlife-dense areas at any one time.

That’s why no time of year is off-limits. Between December and March you’re right in the midst of wildebeest calving season, where Tanzania sees far fewer tourists and a huge amount of big cat predator action. And then there’s the iconic wildebeest migration between June and September (which your wandering camp promises a front-row ticket to). Add to this the exceptional cuisine served up by your private chef and a stint on Zanzibar’s beaches and we think we’ve just proven why this is, indeed, the ultimate African safari experience. But then, you won’t know for sure until you’ve tried it…

Adventure FAQs

Which airport do I need to fly in and out of? Plus airport code

Fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and out of Abeid Amani Karume (Zanzibar) International Airport (ZNZ).

What time should my flight arrive (in time for the welcome meeting)?

Before 3pm ideally. The welcome meeting and dinner will be from 6pm at the hotel, which is 25-30 minutes away from Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar Es Salaam.

What time should my flight depart on the last day?

Check-out time is 10am but we recommend booking your return flight from 12pm onwards, to allow plenty of time for travel and check-in. The hotel is around 1 hour and 30 minutes away (65km) from the airport, and you’ll need to arrive three hours before your flight. If you’re happy with an early start, earlier departures are possible – just be prepared for a pre-dawn wake-up call. Your Pack Leader or hotel staff can help you book your transfers the night before if needed.

Do you include airport transfers?

If you arrive on Day 1 of your adventure, or you’ve booked yourself a pre-night at the same hotel the adventure starts from, your airport arrival transfer will be included. Arrival transfers are private to Flash Pack and in groups depending on flight times, so you may have to wait in the airport for a short while.

However, if you’ve booked alternative pre-trip accommodation or are arriving by another mode of transport, you’ll have to arrange your own arrival transfer

Please also note: in order to secure your place on the private transfer, you’ll need to provide your flight details to our Customer Experience team no later than 30 days prior to your adventure’s departure date. You’ll get automated email reminders about this, but the team won’t be chasing you. That’s why it’s key to get this information over in good time. If the details are provided later than 30 days pre-departure, you’ll have to arrange your own arrival transfer.

Departure transfers are typically not included due to travelers leaving at varying times. That said, your Pack Leader will happily help arrange departure transfers for you if required.

Are tips included?

Please note that tips are not included in the cost of this adventure. Your Pack Leader will collect a tipping kitty on arrival at Little Bush Rover camp and this will be distributed equally among the staff.

However, all tips are at your discretion depending on what you feel comfortable with.

Why is December to March such a good time to visit?

December to March sees the arrival of the wildebeest calving season, a time during which around 500,000 wildebeest are born. As you can imagine, these vulnerable creatures attract a huge amount of predators – think lions, cheetahs and hyenas – so excellent wildlife viewing is guaranteed. What’s more, the lack of tourists, the lush green landscapes from the short rains and the warm temperatures make this time of year simply stunning in Tanzania.

What other months are good to visit?

From June to mid-July, the Bush Rover Migration Camp is located on the fabulous Grumeti river where the migration is expected to be at this time of year. The aim of the camp is to be right in the heart of the great migration

After the November rains when the fresh grasses grow in the southeast of Serengeti, the wildebeest continue to move from north to south. The Bush Rover Suites are in situ, having arrived at their final annual destination in the area of Kusini. The camp will remain here, with the wildebeest, until mid-March

During mid-July, the Bush Rover Suites move from the west to the north of Serengeti with a stunning site with a view of the great Mara river that many would envy. Why is this so important? At this time of year, the herds move to this area in the far north to graze on the new grasses in this area. To see an actual crossing of the Mara river by thousands of wildebeest is the holy grail of wildlife viewing.

Do I need a visa?

Up-to-date visa and entry information can be found using our official partner, Sherpa, who can help you arrange a visa if needed.

You can also find essential travel advice – including security and local laws, as well as passport and visa information – on the government website of your home country:

Please be aware that passport and visa requirements can change before departure, so it’s important to stay updated with the latest information.

Do I need additional insurance?

As of 1st October 2024, the Zanzibar government has introduced a mandatory insurance policy for all visitors. Here are the need-to-knows:

• The insurance costs $44 per person and must be purchased through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation in advance of travel here.

• This insurance is only valid while in Zanzibar and does not cover other parts of the trip, such as mainland Tanzania.

• You must still have comprehensive travel insurance for the rest of your journey.

• Entry to Zanzibar may be denied without proof of purchasing this specific insurance.

What vaccinations and medication will I need?

While we are not medical professionals and cannot offer personalized medical advice, we want to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable adventure. Here are some tips to help you prepare.

1. Consult with a healthcare professional

We recommend scheduling an appointment with your travel nurse or doctor at least eight weeks before your adventure. This will give you ample time to receive any necessary vaccines or medications.

2. Up-to-date medical advice

3. Government travel advice

4. Medication tips

If you take prescription medication, ensure you bring enough to last the entire adventure, plus a few extra days in case of travel delays. Carry a copy of your prescription with you in case you need to visit a clinic while abroad.

We hope this information will help you prepare for a safe and healthy adventure.

How much should I budget per day for extras?

Most of your meals are included but we suggest budgeting around 95,000 TZS, the equivalent of 35-40 USD per day for extras.

What's the luggage limit for domestic flights on this itinerary?

The luggage limit for the domestic flight from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza on Day 2 is 23kg for hold luggage and 7kg for carry-on.

The luggage limit for the domestic flight from Seronera to Zanzibar on Day 7 is 15kg for hold luggage and 5kg for carry-on. If your luggage exceeds this, you can pay 5 USD per additional kilogram at the airport.

Will the itinerary change?

Please be aware that the itinerary, activities and hotels are subject to change. These changes can happen with little notice due to availability, poor weather, seasonal changes, or other circumstances beyond our control – but we’ll always do our best to ensure it has little impact on your experience. From time to time, we may also make changes to your itinerary to try out new ideas and keep things fresh and exciting.

The order of some of the activities may change. Please check with one of our Travel Experts about the specific departure you are interested in.

Can I request a single room on this adventure?

Single supplements are not possible on this adventure due to the nature of the accommodation you’ll be staying in. Please contact us should you require more information.

Will I have the same Pack Leader for the whole trip?

During this adventure, you will have two dedicated Pack Leaders. The first will guide you on the Tanzanian mainland (Days 1-7), and the second will join you in Zanzibar (Days 7-9). Your mainland Pack Leader will assist until you board your flight at Seronera Airstrip, and your Zanzibar Pack Leader will meet you upon arrival in Zanzibar.
